Macri It is a small settlement in Belomorska Thrace in the municipality of Alexandroupoli in the eastern part of the southernmost sloping hills of the Ovcharitsa mountain, where it meets the Aegean Sea. It is located 9 km west of the city of Alexandroupoli and about 700 m from the Aegean coast is the coastal district of Makri (Παραλία Μάκρης). Its small but relatively well-equipped port and the several-kilometer beach, named after the chapel located there "St. Petka" (Αγία Παρασκευή – Agia Paraskevi).

Makri has 1674 inhabitants. Its name means "elongated place" (from Gr. μακρά). Since this beach is very close to Makri, it is sometimes referred to as one of the two beaches of the village, along with Agios Georgios. Its name comes from the name of the small church Agia Paraskevi by the sea. Agia Paraskevi is a well-known and quite visited place during the summer. There are several beach bars with umbrellas and sunbeds. The sand is mixed with small pebbles along the shore, and in the distance, you can see the island of Samothrace.
